Signage ideas

WhIlst I knew what sort of themes my Idea was based on I was unsure about what I was actaully goIng to do, I was pretty stuck but I realIsed whIlst lookIng at my hand that thats what we use to show people around so I started drawIng hands thIs was my fIrst one I was lookIng at jamIe hewlett (the artIst behInd The GorIllaz) I chose that style prImarIly because I thought everyone would lIke It, but after It was fInIshed I looked at It and realIsed It wsa really creepy and the teachers wouldn’t lIke It, It doesn’t put across the rIght Image for the school. So I went back to the drawIng board.

Signage

Before I dId any plans for what I wanted the school sIgnage to look lIke I had to lIsten to what everyone else wanted as thIs was desIgn I had to try to appeal to as many people as possIble, prelImInary dIscussIons wIth our class, they were sayIng how pastel colours would be good to have around the school as they would not dIstract you from your work. The archItect KIm lodge thought that lInkIng the two buIldIngs wIth some sort of colour or theme was what he wanted,  In our prelImInary dIscussIons we also looked at dIfferent sIgns that have been used, one of the sIgns whIch I partIcularly lIked was the sIgns In Great Almond Street chIldren’s hospItal, where they used anImal pIctures to lead you to dIfferent sectIons of the hospItal. To accompany the sIgns there was pIctures of anImals movIng through the jungle on the walls, the background was left whIte. I thought for my desIgn the school should maybe Include an aspect of that desIgn.for my sIgn I  was thInkIng about what people want from sIgns, so all the Information that you mIght need to lead you quIckly around the school should be clearly layed out, then for the aesthetic sIde wIth thIngs that arent so nessasary they could be more creative wIth appearance.

Interesting Buildings

Pompidou Centre
(Paris)

The building started construction in 1969 the building was officially opened in 1977 and has had over 150 million visitors since the building was constructed in a high tech style of architecture known as Structural Expressionism, it was made to show all the inner workings of the building, almost turning it inside out, the building was designed by Renzo Piano & Richard Rogers, later Richard Rogers went on to design the Loyds Building in London (Image below).

Loyds Building
It was created after the Pompidou Centre  in very much the same style the building was very high tech for the time. As the features are on the outside the inside of the building is very clean and uncluttered. The building has 12 glass lifts that run along the outside of the building, they were the first of their type to be used in the UK.
the new loyds building was built on top of the old one however they preserved the main enterance at  Leadenhall Street, the picture is also below.

Eddie Stobart
I picked Eddie Stobart because it is quite unusual but i have always known of them, they started 40 years ago. Since there beginning they have always kept there lorry's squeaky clean and they also give each lorry it’s own individual name (the first lorry was called twiggy, after the famous model)anyone who see’s one of there Lorry's will point it out, they have been working on this brand identity from it’s start. They have even gone as far as creating there own toys and have a fan club of around 15,000 members.
There brand identity has been helped firstly by its visually pleasing graphic look which has recently been updated as you can see on the picture to the left. Also by engaging its audience with competitions. The most recent being find the lorry with the question mark on you are invited to name your own lorry, also the Madeleine McCann appeal is advertised on some of their trucks.
This brand identity means  that potential costumers will think of them first and also helps customer loyalty.

Heinz

Heinz began in 1869 selling horse radish in glass jars. At the time this was revolutionary in terms of packaging as all its other competitors would hide their products from view, so you could only see it when you had bought it. Heinz was showing it's customers what the products looked like before they bought them.
Heinz's image is classic with an emphasis is on quality, it makes good simple food but also at reasonable prices. It's strap line is, "it has to be Heinz", which implies that it’s a tradition to have Heinz.
Although the company is American Heinz is one of Britain's most loved food companies and has a strong customer base, this is due to its consistent quality and long standing reputation.
